UK Home Automation Series Part 8 Amazon Echo Unboxing & Set Up

Welcome to Part 8 of my home automation series, this video is the unboxing and set up of my brand spanking new Amazon Echo, i had problems as i couldn’t use my normal camera because i lost the micro SD card somewhere so had to use the iPhone, so the sound is terrible, although the picture is alright i suppose. So i could video myself doing the physical set up but not me setting up on the app, but I can assure you it’s really easy, plus there’s no need for it to be near your router, what i was expecting, as i thought i’d need to plug into the Ethernet port. But Echo is purely run on the WiFi signal which is damn good in my book! I also give my new friend ‘Alexa’ some basic instructions which she performs excellently and way way better than Siri does. Not one problem with her understanding what i said at all, which is a credit to the developers at Amazon.

So i’ve ordered a new SD card which should arrive tomorrow so i can continue setting up the Echo with my other home automation products such as my Philips Hue system, my Belkin WeMo switches and my Hive systems.

As i said in the video i’d list some of the things that i’ve used in my home automation videos and they are below, they will take you straight to the relevant Amazon page so you don’t have to look for them.

UK Home Automation Series Part 6 Demo Of Siri VS Philips Hue

I wasn’t going to set up Hue to work with Apples Siri, i was going to wait for the Amazon Echo to turn up and do it that way, but i couldn’t just leave it like that, so i set up Siri which is on my iPhone 6s, to work with the lighting system I just installed into most of my house and here’s the results…. Sorry i do get a bit excitable in this video, i love it, I just can’t wait to meet Amazon’s Echo now got a long 6 days to wait now……
